Reinvent yourself at any age!

Reinventing yourself is possible at any age. The key is to recognize that it’s not about starting over, but starting smarter.

You must see your age as an asset, not a limitation, and understand that growth and change have no timeline or expiration date!

When we are younger, challenges seem easier to face. We have more time, more flexibility, and more optimism, but as we age, facing challenges can seem a lot harder. We may become jaded or inflexible with our bodies, our way of thinking, and our habits.

So, I’m here to share the key components to reinvent yourself, at ANY age!

Change is Inevitable! Growth is Optional.

Let’s face it, as we age, our bodies change, careers can change, kids leave home, and a lot of big life transitions happen.

Maybe you don’t recognize yourself in the mirror, or you’re dealing with more aches and pains than you used to. The key to navigating these changes is your mindset, attitude, outlook, and perspective.

These all may seem like the same thing, and in some sense they are, but keeping focus on the positives in life and having faith, trust, and gratitude will get you much further than complaining or focusing on the negatives.

Traumatic things happen to us, especially in childhood, and that can create a negative way of viewing life and the world around you. It’s important to face your past, understand it, and seek to heal it so that you CAN relate to it differently and not dwell on it.

This was key in my transformation and success, and in how I was able to shift from being a kid with a speech impediment and a difficult upbringing to becoming a top fitness trainer in the industry.

Look for resources to support your growth and make it as important as your day job.

Your Identity isn’t Your Job

Many of us can get caught up in the way we look, what we do for a living, or what happened to us in the past.

We must seek to create a new story about ourselves, that is steeped in growth and positivity.

Many of us face challenges and hard times, but it’s important to not let those challenges define who you are.

When I got sick with Ramsay Hunt in 2017, it was hard not to let that define me. As a fitness trainer, wasn’t I supposed to be someone who beat these things, or never got them in the first place? It felt like a chink in my armor.

I focused on recovery, supporting my mental health, and taking it ONE day at a time with low expectations. I did research, sought out resources to help, and I kept my outlook and attitude in check.

I started to embrace a new story about myself: that I was someone who could overcome a very difficult health challenge and come out stronger (and more educated) than I was before. Getting RH changed my life for the better!

What challenge have you identified with negatively that you can turn into a win instead?

Forget Perfect!

Small wins equal big change. Trying to be perfect is a recipe for failure. Keep your focus on progress instead.

If you do something 1% better every day, that will ultimately result in a much better and happier life.

Drop the high expectations you have on yourself, and stay in forward motion. If you falter or mess up, that’s ok… just keep focusing on the next right action.

Stay Curious

The fastest way to grow is to NEVER stop learning. Stay curious. Read books, learn a new skill, join a club or group that appeals to you.

By staying curious, you stay open. Life will continue to present you with new opportunities; you just have to be willing to say yes and step forward.

If you’ve always wanted to paint, or draw, or learn how to dance, there is NO time like the present.

Learning a new skill later in life keeps our brain sharp and agile.

Your Body Drives Your Future

Here is the real deal, your body is the engine that powers your dreams. IT’s the vehicle that gets you through life with either ease or suffering.

The more you move, the more energy and opportunity you create for yourself.

Strength builds confidence, health and overall wellbeing. If you don’t know where to start, just take a walk each evening after dinner.

This will stoke your metabolism and help your digestion. Notice how you feel after a few weeks of walking every night.

Then you can start to add in strength training little by little. If you’re already fit, don’t stop moving. Switch up your workouts, find a sport you like, or do something new to challenge your body.

The more you support your body, the better your life will be.
